I've added a .RAR file to my website with the contents of the mov, ROM, and sound folders. It's 4.7GB. Updated to August 3rd, 2011.

http://tehkrizz.net/FFXI/downloads.php

Install FFXI and the expansions like normal, then extract the RAR file to your "C:\Program Files (x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI" directory. Let it overwrite everything. Afterwards, do a file check from POL.

I've got a means to do a similar thing for the PS2 files, if it's allowed here. You have to use a memory card running FreeMCBoot and uLaunchELF to work it, but it will let missing expansions be installed, and will fix the error of the hard drive claiming not to have enough free space.

I added a guide for those unfamiliar with .RAR files.

It's meant to be a rar file you can unpack over a fresh install.

you are missunderstanding the question

i know how to handle a rar file
but i'm wondering what tool did you use to figure out which files that is new and then make a patch of it.

which utility did you use to compared old and new version and define the files to use for the patch.

im trying to work on my own patch since yours are not updated. and erm because rar is not optimal for this size of data. 7zip does much better to due alot bigger dictionary and can still be decompressed by winrar

your full patch is at 4.7gb
mine is at 3.9 just because i used a better compression

however i wish to make a update patch for only the newest files isnted of a full update package

Sorry for hijacking you thread . if its bad give me a slap

I finally just did a manual deleting of non updated files in my mega patch. its still have some files that are unneeded but it those are in folders, where it would take a long time to delete those manually

anyway got size down below 350mb and it got a lot of the recent updates, not just the latest one.

How To install
Its an .exe file just run it and type in the path to the final fantasy XI folder.

E.G. for steam users:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\ffxi\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\

E.G. for CD users
C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\

I was assisted in most of the individual patches by someone else. I'm not sure what tool they used. My method is a LOT more drawn out.

I suppose I should stop being lazy and add another file for the latest patches, but the congestion hasn't been as bad so I haven't seen it as necessary.

Also, you edited your post after I read it, I think. I didn't see the questions about comparing files.

AH. thank you for the feedback

I finally found a semi automatic way to do it so the 4+ hours i spend on the fist patch can be done in below 30 mins ...

I'm making a smaller patch now that contains more updated file. finally strip all non updated files for the packages

Made a bigger patch that will update the basic steam version to the newest.

So if you reinstall this is the patch to use. If your FFXI is only a yeah old you can use the previous.

How To install
Download and run the .exe file.
Type in the path to the final fantasy XI folder.

E.G. for steam users:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\ffxi\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\

Several individuals have had issues with POL finding corrupt FFXI files after updating (both manually and POL update). The below file is ONLY for those who get a message about ~200+ files being corrupt, a majority of which are in the ROM/17 and ROM/18 folders. This will also replace any files modified by FFXIStyle.

Couple updates.

I replaced FFXIFiles_20110803.rar with ROMs_20111214.rar. This new file is meant for a new, clean installation. However, it no longer includes the MOV and Sound folders. I will include those in separate downloads that will be posted later today.

[Edit: MOV_20111214.rar and Sounds_20111214.rar have been uploaded]

I have made some modifications to the navigation as well for clarity. I'm still trying to think of better labels, but for now they are 'Individual Patch Guide' and 'New Installation Patch Guide'. The difference between the two is the location you unRAR them. Individual patches use the SE directory, while the ROM .rar uses the FFXI directory. I will correct this for consistency (to all use the FFXI directory) in a few days (or if there is an emergency maint and update before then).

I've also added a note on the new installation patch guide that POL will not do a file check on FFXI until you have attempted to sign in once.
