I Stopped playing for a while, mainly because i quickly grew tired of what abyssea did to FFXI. The good: small man content, most people can get good gear quickly..ect the bad: most of the old content became unused, gear people worked so long on became "meh" gear, leveling became a joke and any monkey could get multi-90's quick....TRIGGERS!!

Now that abyssea is done and we still have 9 levels worth to go, do you think SE will pump out a (possibly final) expansion or equivalent in mini expansions for it?

If they could do it (new zones, gear, a real story..ect) i would jump back into this game in a heart beat..even with college starting up again soon, id play whenever i could.

I miss this game and seeing FF14 become the turd (and will be turd for a LONG LONG time) i was hoping SE would give us something big like and expansion...so i could come back to this game and not worry about abyssea only crap.

Its been a long time since the release of WoTG and fanfest (i think?) is coming pretty soon, do you think they have been hiding an expansion this whole time? With the mini expansions done whats left for 90+? (it can't be just updates can it?) Would you play more or again if they did put in a true expansion?

Wasn't the last Fan Fest in '08? I think they blamed it on PS2 limitations irl xD I know they had a VanaFest (the JP equivalent) to promote abyssea and the level cap raise though..

Obviously artwork for new mobs and a zone originally posted here..

And IMO they have to be doing something big soon for 91-99 otherwise all these level cap raises and such will be pointless

It wouldn't surprise me. It will be a mini expansion in lieu of a full fledged expansion though, this I'm fairly certain of.

Yah its been a long time since the last expansion (now that WoTG is done) and that roadmap stops at 95. I just cant see them only doing updates for the rest of the games life.

14 is a giant bust for them and XI is just about to add public test servers and recently the official forums were added. How can they not do something big with their final cap?

I just want them to stop with abyssea mainly.

And well, if the rumor is true that they'r porting XI to the vita, that would be the perfect oportunity for them to release a new expansion.

when is the JP vana-fest anyways? (im guessing they wont change the name until FF14 is not a giant free disaster)

i remember watching the live stream somewhere and people going crazy over stuff like the level cap raising and tanaka doing that goofy dance.

Doubt they planned the necessary resources to develop a new "full" expansion, don't see it happen. Mini exps might happen altough I don't see that very much likely either.
Supposing they wanted to release new areas/things, they would need to either:
1) Declare the PS2 version obsolete and stop supporting it (oh yeah!)
2) Find a way to furtherly compress/cut data, so that there is more space for new data. Yes I'm not joking, PS2 with the official HDD had this issue, they're already at the very limit, and each new patch, even if it's just a few MBs, stretches a lot that boundary.

So yeah, don't see it happening =/

Dropping PS2 support would cost more money than it would to just keep it there :| So not gonna happen.

They keep reusing old zones because of that limit; Adding new content in old zones let's them keep the PS2 support thing or whatever and still give us ***we "want to do" I believe o_o

Isn't the PS2 HDD 40 gig? Do they have a small part formatted?

it is, but i think its a ram issues or something. I really hate the fact that there is so much left that they can do with this game, especially since its their only money making MMO and its still doing quite well after all these years. They already have lots of stuff built up in the lore, its just that they cant/wont do anything with it.

its a damn shame. The fact that party centric MMOs like FFXI are pretty much gone for solo fest quest hopping MMOs is depressing. Looks like il have to wait another year or so for 14 to get its crap together.

The majority of impartial players disagree with you.

The game is far better received and actually pretty liked by a load of people who quit immediately after release.

Exactly.

There will be expansions for level 90+ in FFXI. When? I have no frakin' clue. It could be downloadable updates, though. I think the days of going to GameStop to pick up an expansion on CD are probably over.

I wouldn't be surprised if PS2 support is dropped pretty soon.

Simply because of HDD issues.

The problem with the Playstation 2 is the COPY PROTECTION system it uses:

DNAS (Dynamic Network Authentication System) is designed to prevent copying of contents from a drive to another and to keep a installed piece of contents from working in a different PS2 console. It's what forces you to format the HDD if you need to move it from one console to another.

The whole debacle comes from the fact that to enlarge the partition designed for the FFXI game they need to submit an application to SONY for the required new partition size. And apparently SONY is no longer accepting such requests.

So if YOU hack it around and artificially enlarge the partition, it fails DNAS check and you have to format the HDD to install again.

I knew it would fail so I didn't try it myself but I have witnessed others try and end needing to reinstall everything.

SONY already shut down most of the DNAS servers for the PS2. The only few exceptions are POL/FFXI and Nobunaga Online for the PS2, apparently and only because these titles can be played on the PS3 which has back compatibility.

So while I don't see anything big being made for FFXI, I don't feel like they would drop it either.

I don't know but I believe that there might be a slim chance that SE could talk SCEI into allowing them to add another 5 or 10 GB to the FFXI partition size.

In a nutshell it's technically doable, but politically tricky to do so.

Actually Bahamut is pretty chill. Most everyone I've come into contact with has been friendly. Take into account the fact that I spend very little time in port jeuno tho. Best thing SE has done in a long time is putting abyssea warp dudes in home cities.
