Both the capital city and an island nearby were attacked. Apparently the prime ministers office was hit in the bomb blast but he was not there at the time.

Reading reports of up to 30 dead at Utoeya and 7 in Oslo.

From what they were saying on the news earlier, they arrested the shooter, and apparently the two attacks are likely connected. They said the shooter was of Nordic descent, so it might be a case of domestic terrorism.

It's awful and I didn't think anything like this would happen over here.

My heart really goes out to the Norwegians today. Please keep this thread updated with any news.

From what I heard, the attacks are connected and most-likely political, since the Labor Party's building was targeted, and the party was also holding the youth camp that was targeted. Hopefully all involved in this act are found and arrested.

Do you seriously believe this was a "false flag" attack? Conspiracy theorists...

How about maybe this was an attack on the political system in Norway? An attack meant as a protest against the Labour party and the political system as a whole. I find that more likely than a "false flag" conspiracy theory.

I can't speak for the English speaking channels but its disappointing how little coverage this is getting on the spanish networks. It was briefly mentioned once. I guess award shows and J.Lo's divorce speculations really are that much more important.

I can't bring myself to get all sappy but I honestly do wish for the best outcome for everyone who has been affected by this.

Police have found un-detonated explosives at Utoeya. The gunman has been caught some time ago, and he was using automatic rifles, and its still unclear if he was acting alone or in collaboration. He's currently being interrogated by the police.

Shooter has been linked to right-wing extremists, and has 2 weapons registered, a glock and a automatic weapon. His residence is currently being searched by armed police, along with a bomb squad.

Man, I was just in Oslo a little over a month ago >.<
My heart goes out to all those affected.

I know that doesn't mean much, having gone through a mass-shooting myself (Virginia Tech). There's nothing anyone can say to ease the blow, or the losses.

I wish people weren't crazy.

This is true from what I heard as well. Hard to get help out to an island, plus the people were in such shock because he was dressed as a police officer that there was a lot of confusion as well.

death toll so far has risen to 84 people killed at the youth rally on the island, and 7 people killed in the bombing in Oslo. Witnesses have said there might be a second shooter, and police is investigating.

Confessed mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik may end up serving time in a newly built maximum-security prison that's considered among the world's most luxurious, according to The Telegraph.


The prison, Halden Fengsel, opened last year outside of Oslo and houses around 250 male inmates. But a Norwegian news outlet TV2 claims Breivik will more likely end up in Ila prison, which is less cushy than Halden, but still "a far cry" from the bare cells of American prisons. The BBC reports that Breivik is already there now in a bare cell containing nothing but a toilet, a table and a chair.
