Atheists the new Theists ?
On this forum I think we're guilty for this at times.
One on the front page wasn't enough?

I love it when one group tries to show how another group is wrong by saying they do the same thing that the first group does.. Atheists and Theists will go back and fourth like that forever.

Most rational people don't get upset when people push valid information on them. Attempting to shove the sky being orange down my throat, however.. yeah, I'll be a tad irritated. /facepalm

All that said, the Bible is written by man, not by God.. I find it hard to believe that such a supreme being would contradict itself so much, it also bothers me every time something good happens it was because of God, and when something bad happens, it was God's master plan. ***happens, stop trying to find some underlying meaning, or sense in it. If you want to believe you will go to Heaven and live in eternal joy when you die, then more power to you, but not everything that happens is due to some master plan. You're all atheists already. Every one of you.
Even the most stridently religious of you is an atheist towards Ra, the Sun God. You're atheist about Quetzalcoatl, Athena, Saturn, Zeus, Odin, or any other of the thousands and millions of gods and goddesses who have come and gone throughout human history. And you don't give them a single waking moment of thought or careful contemplation to their non-existence. You do not engage in "the religion of not believing in Imahmana Viracocha." There are no weekly meetings. There's no political movement. You just don't give it any consideration whatsoever. Atheists are precisely the same way -- they just add one more god to the list. Not even Christopher Hitchens (the most publicly virulent anti-religious person I can recall offhand) wants to outlaw religion, nor would consider a religious person an impossibly flawed, evil being who does not deserve to hold elected office or be invited into one's house. He just wants religion to leave him alone. Yet the stigma against atheists in our society is so strong, publicly proclaiming yourself to be one is akin to proclaiming yourself an agent of Lucifer. It is impossible to achieve any elected office in this country after such a pronouncement. Many studies have shown that the hatred towards atheists in this country is more widespread and vitriolic than even the hatred towards militant Islam. So please, don't equate the two. This is why I keep believing in the invisible 9 foot tall tentacle monster that lives under my bed. No one can disprove it's there because it's invisible. Whenever I try to touch it, dang things moves around on me! I have faith that he is there. Terrible scary faith in that thing. I mean I am serious about my faith and you just need to poke fun at it shame on you for doing such a thing like that, I thought we were better friends than that this ignorant drivel should not be allowed to go on much further and I hope someone sees this and takes the appropriate action as your words do hurt me so Remora.Dodu said: Valefor.Slipispsycho said: I love it when one group tries to show how another group is wrong by saying they do the same thing that the first group does.. On to the topic: Are some atheists the same as fundamentalists? In the sense of being aggressively anti-religion, perhaps. But I still don't think it's equivalent. Fundamentalists argue for things like prayer in schools, creationism in science classes, and various other things which impose their view and their view ALONE onto others in public sectors. Atheists who are against religion are, at worst, calling religious people stupid and overtly criticising their beliefs, but I know of no major movements or figures calling for the banning of religion. No atheist I know thinks we have the right to make worshipping god illegal. Generally, the idea is that it's a private thing, people should keep it in their churches and homes and keep it that way, and that's about it. As for how we are on FFXIAH, it depends. Sometimes you see a lot of ire for religion come out when someone posts on a recent event in the news, and sometimes its just a rant that sparks of debate, discussion, and argumentation. Some people feel more strongly about it than others... and that's true of both sides. Not every religious person I know is a zealot, and not every atheist I know is rabidly anti-religion. Do you care to share how and when you established your personal belief system on the other tread? That's kind of where we're at now. Thought you might want to chime in there also since this is on your mind. I quite plainly said that non-theistic agnostics are correct. The people who know that there's no reason to believe there is a god, yet acknowledge that without definitive evidence, its irrational to claim that there absolutely isn't one. And I don't know what religions you're familiar with, but on Earth, every major monotheistic establishment leaves no room for uncertainty in regard to their God's existence. Faith is used in place of an understanding of his actions, motivations, and plans.
