As they clearly aren't just DDoS, if what they're doing is just "kiddie stuff", shouldn't people care about their private information being so easily accessed? All of you people wishing they were in jail are just annoyed because it's affecting you and are not looking at anything else.

Not saying what they're doing is justified or right, but they are doing it and causing problems for very big companies. Something about that isn't good.
Nothing they've done so far has affected me in the least, I'd still like to see them in jail. Although that's probably more about me hating arrogance (them thinking they're untouchable) than anything else.

all these people are doing is begging for the government agencies around the world to unite and make ridiculous internet laws think Patriot Act but in terms of the internet. They will tap into and partner up with as many ISPs as possible and straight up limit our access to what servers they're going to let us talk to just like China if they keep this HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE ***up.

If they keep putting this pressure on the government or even big business they'll start treating simple DDoS attackers as war criminals, they're already getting close to talking about dealing with these hackers as global terrorists. If they get locked up in Guantanamo Bay than the lulz will be on them.

I wouldn't be surprised if other hacker groups who are less public with their feats helped to take down these more public groups as swiftly as possible.

Can they hack the company that holds my school loan info and take it to 0? Do something for the people if you're such pro hackers. Erase some credit card debts, dig up some juicy news on corporate fraud. How exactly does this help anyone but your own ego?

This might be the dumbest thing I've seen any self-congratulatory hacker group do in a long while.

DoS'ing the CIA, with no agenda, no actual intrusion, no theft, no attempted value, just "for the lulz?"

I mean, eventually you piss off enough important people that no country, company, ISP, government agency, legal protection, or even fellow hacker group is going to protect you. You've made yourself a target from every direction, and suddenly it's in everyone's best interests to make an example out of you. Or hell, someone will offer money and immunity for one kiddie to rat the others out, and the whole thing implodes overnight.

This seems incredibly poorly thought-out.

Except they're all independent of each other. They're as anonymous to each other as to the rest of the world. None can rat the others out beyond knowing where the conversation channels are.

And they were easy to track down?

It took ten years and a huge break to find Bin Laden, and he was chilling in a fairly populated area.

So, I'm a member of the Escapist right. I've made some good friends over there, I play games with them and shoot the breeze with them from time to time.

Now I used to be pretty cavalier with my information. But I got pretty sick of reinstalling Windows so I'm pretty cautious now. Basically, I don't sign up to any website unless I'm sure it's legit.

Nonetheless, last night I couldn't get on the Escapist to watch some videos. I chalk it up to high traffic and move on. Later, I find out LulzSec did a job on it. I also find out that shortly after they did this, a bunch of spam emails got spewed out by my account.

So yeah, I'm not happy.

Yeah, I had 5 saved drafts in my hotmail account. I don't even remember the last time I even drafted an Email (none sent yet), so I changed my password just now.

I'm pretty sure they got on my XBL account too, because I had games on there I had never played or owned.

No-one is truly anonymous.

It is very possible to have such an obfuscated identity that it becomes hard to even be certain that any identity finally traced out can be 100% accurate, if at all. This is entirely how Tor works. The problem isn't looking at each of seven proxies they're behind, but actually figuring out if they're in Sweden or Russia or Mexico...

Perfect anonymity is impossible, yes. You have to come from somewhere. But it is entirely possible to make the job of finding you take longer than, for instance, the statue of limitations on your actions if even possible within a human lifetime if it involves also breaking encryption.

Giving them far too little credit. They'd be getting buttraped in a federal penitentiary if they were doing easy scriptkiddie junk. Unless it comes out two weeks from now that a whole dozen of them have been rounded up, messing with CIA.gov and skittering away clean is proof enough they know what they're doing. I weep for the copycats however...

You're giving them far too much credit. What are the actual details of what they did to CIA, I doubt it was anything more than *** with inconsequential ***that doesn't even warrant a retaliation.

If they actually breached high-security though, that's tantamount to a declaration of war.

And yeah like Zic said, I really don't think they realise how exactly far they're going. If they do anything major it is essentially an act of war.

I think a lot of people are underestimating our capability to retaliate. Yes, it's hard to track them down, but the moment an attack warrants the response, you'll see a bunch of pasty virgins hanging by their heels. I assure you.

Like I said before, I think people should release all the info from the hacks. If I had a company that got hacked, the first thing I'd do is anonymously tip off other hacker groups. Even maybe with some incentive.
