.DAT mod image editor?
Does anyone know a good program for editing the .dat art files for the game?
It's said that Gimp (the art program) can be substituted if you don't have access to Photoshop.
The Gimp or Paint.net are both pretty good imo if you don't have Photoshop

Not sure what the mods stance is on this, but find Photoshop CS3 on PirateBay o:. Figure if there was a thread on emulators up that didnt get banned hammered...
I have photoshop CS4 but i was looking more for a 3d image editor, anyone know of something like that?
You mean for posing or reshaping the models?
For posing, I've been told you can use Meta. Reshaping can be done there or VRS, but VRS is the only one you can use to delete parts of a model. vrs being virtual rendering system?
I think it stands for Virtual Reality Studio, but it's been a while since I used it. You can download it at the FFXIDats Caarie site, among others. Not sure where else though, that's the only one I know of with a link.
kk think i found it. Next question: does anyone know where i can get an image dat for ffxi? im on my laptop so i dont have the game
You need to be a bit more specific with what you're trying to do.
What do you mean by "image .dat?" You mean a weapon or character model or something else? thank you Trauma this is very helpful ^^
I'm just trying to make new armor/weapon .dats because i've grown tired of the current ones and i want some practice modeling. I don't want to start from scratch though so i want to take a pre-existing dat (preferably weapon) and start practicing from there.
Well, armor is separated into different pieces for each piece of equipment (Head, Body, Hands, Legs, and Feet), so for a whole set you need to do 5 different dats.
A weapon is only 1 unless you're working on an offhand, then it's still only 1 but it's different than the usual one. Hand to Hand weapons are the only exception unless you WANT them to be different, but that's extra explaining. If you want to take something someone has already done, just download one from ffximc or the Caarie site, but I would wait until you get home or install the game on your laptop because you can't view the changes appropriately without Altana/Model Viewers, let alone import/export the files for modding purposes. alright, thanks Doluka ^^
But yeah I'm getting into video game design as a career so wanted to practice some 3d modeling in some form, figured I'd start here. No problem, feel free to PM me with any questions. With all the guides down it can be really confusing, especially in VRS.
