Fish Out Of Water, Seeks Push Back Into Pond.

I'm sure there's probably an abundance of posts like this already and I apologise if I'm just repeating others, but after a rather vague (i'll admit) look, I couldn't see exactly what I was looking for.
I've been playing the game for years now and like many I've had my fair share of breaks here and there, every time returning to change, gotta admit, this is the biggest change I've come across so far.

I had PLD, WAR, RNG, COR at 75 NIN at 70 and was in the process of levelling DRK. PLD being my main. Within about 5 minutes of logging on I'm told PLD is dead. Made me wonder, what's actually worth it's salt out of the jobs I've got so far to take further and of any use? Don't really fancy putting my energy into something that nobody is gonna need or want.

Also, is old endgame gear irrelevant now in some respects? Whats still good? and out of whichever job I have worth pursuing, what gear should I be looking at?

So basically, I'm looking for a hand to point me in the right direction so I can get back into the game ASAP. Again sorry if I'm being somebody elses lazy echo here! ^^;

There's no reason to level anything in FFXI currently besides MNK and WHM.

Heading in the right direction then eh, Ergh, neither of those are remotely high! Still I suppose it poses a new challenge, Cheers for the heads up.

Sadly there's probably not much use for your PLD, but your war and nin could get a hefty amount of use.

I came back recently too with a friend and now he only plays nin, while my old friends who used war in combination with other stuff mostly play war now as well.

Remember though, all about fun, then necessity.

WAR is the strongest DD in game and NIN/DNC can solo so much you wouldn't believe, they are fine jobs so do them first. RNG and PLD are useless crap

RNG was always pretty bad tbh.

I Dunno, RNG was pretty situational for me, I enjoyed it and in the right circustances could crack out one hell of a lot of DMG in a short space of time. Was pretty consistant all round for me though. Out DD'd my WAR easily, but my WAR was pretty average to be fair I guess.

WAR is a better DD and red/blue slashing proccer, NIN is better for red procs, BLM is great for gryellow procs, BLU is great for gryellow procs and AoE burning (and also a powerful DD with lots of versatility); BRD you could mimic by making the BLM come /BRD but is still a good puller. THF is a strong DD and Treasure Hunter is always good. COR with Wildfire has nice utility particularly on physical resistant NMs, RNG with Jishnu's is in a whole other tier than a RNG without, RDM is still good for mage onry lowman or where you have more than a bare minimum number of people. Etc etc.

I'm sure BRD will come back into the limelight eventually. Especially if a new tier of march comes out or there's need for alliances.

Sure, if you like killing stuff in abyssea w/o procing any !! except blue, and only during blunt phase.


In-demand jobs in abyssea are currently:

MNK - tank (nin/dnc and dnc/nin do a great job at this spot too)
WHM - healer
BLM - yellow (bonus points if you have /brd)
BLU - yellow (bonus points if you have /nin - shame on you if you don't)
BRD - yellow (not so much if your blm can come /brd)
NIN - red & yellow
WAR - red

Play it with idiot douchebags, and it will definitely not be enjoyable.

Play with friends. Or join a decent group, and it will be.

I and most of the other posters here who speak about efficiency don't actually care about squeezing out every last % at the expense of fun, like coming as "imperfect" jobs. It's mainly just brought up against the people who try to restrict other people's jobs, like MNK ONRY and stuff like that.

The only jobs I can't really make a defence for at the moment are DRK and PLD :x

I can't wait to get Jishnu's on my rng =3 22/30 coins.

TH is actually really good these days too yeah :P

Yeah my linkshell almost never uses mnks. NIN / DNC / THF can tank most things, if not everything really.

PLD is of little use atm, even more so in a large group. However, if you can spare seals and +2 items, a friend of mine almost has finished his whole creed set and has had a blast using it. The amount of hp healed back is pretty big with 4/5 +2. If anything big and bad comes out that doesn't live in Abyssea you might find it quite fun and possibly useful if you don't have ideal set up when NM or w/e when it pops. In the end, if you get the drops you need, stayed alive, and had fun doing it, no job is useless. (Caveat being here that in low-man situation PLD brings little to the table with procs, in high-man situations all PLD is going to do is put out small DD numbers and the NM will probably not notice there is a PLD around.)

Really though, with how easy it is to level and even get seals for +1 af3 gear, there should really be no reason you can't level multiple jobs and get gear for the less popular jobs to satisfy your entertainment needs. Your best bet is to ask your friends, hey what jobs are we low on? Then level those jobs.

but yea, war is THE BEST JOB IN THE GAME IN 2011 (dd-wise), i was in tahrongi canyon yesterday with my largely-mediocre war90 gear, skilling up my 200 skill gaxe, spamming raging rush for +2k every single *** time, even commonly +3k with berserk on, with razed ruins as my only dd atma (other two were regen atmas)

hasso + restraint =
