The below is purely for fun and excitment, shave off some of those bored moments you have. Know this is my first post on ffxiah but hope you'll all be friendly about it. Feel free to skip the story, not the best anyway.
I got bored at work and created my own armour system which I think will solve all old armours problems. Simple to implament and a world of possibilities and ways to re-use old events. Below will be my system, please feel free to comment and also create some of your own pieces if you like :-). Materia will come from Sky, Sea, HNM's, NM's, Wyrms, BCNMs, Dynamis, Limbus, ZNM, VNM, Salvage, Nyzul Isle, Chocobo racing / Digging, Crafting, Gathering, Missions, Quests, basically everywhere!
Jauntys Materia Armour System
All unaugmented armour under level 75 can now be augmented from synergy using a new materia system where materia drops from various places such as old nm's and events. The greater the prize the rarer the materia, for example Level 4 refresh drops from Absolute Vitrue and Level 2 Haste drops in Chocobo Racing.
Story
Not thought up names yet so using Ename and Hname for the Elvaan and Hume.
An old Elvaan adventurer, Ename, has found a rare coloured orb and is working on a technique to slot it into armour. Help him by finding more of these orbs.
Ename can be found in Northern San d’Oria at F-3 next to the Synergy Furnace.
Attempting to converse with Ename without level 30, a synergy crucible and armour which can be augmented will result in the following reply:
Ename???: Hello fellow adventurer!
Ename???: Hmmm? Why I did find an orb but you don’t look like the type who could help me.
Ename???: Return to me when you have broadened your horizons.
A cutscene will activate if the above requirements are made, resulting in the following:
(Cutscene with an Elvaan, dressed in a Cerise Doublet, beating on a furnace while a Hume, in a Nobles Tunic, stands feeding the furnace)
Hname???: Keep thwacking it! I think we got it this time!
Ename???: I’m thwacking, I’m thwacking!
Hname???: Nooo your going to loose it!
(Furnace explodes open)
Hname???: Shoot!
Ename???: Again?
Ename???: Ohh maybe this adventurer here could help us. Prey tell us your name?
Ename???: Hi <name> I am Ename and my friend here is Hname.
Ename: You see I found this orb shaped item in King Ranperre’s Tomb but I’m having difficulty using it. I call it materia.
Hname: I’m telling you, the materia keeps falling out the slots I’ve made, your armour just isn't powerful enough to hold this much.
Ename: Ok <name>, you know the secret now, maybe you could help us?
Ename: This materia I have found seems too bright to fit into the slots my friend here has made, maybe you could find me more?
Hname: We will share the secrets with you.
(Cutscene ends)
Find a level 1 materia from various different places and trade to Ename for the following cutscene: You will loose the material.
(Cutscene repeats itself with Ename and Hname working on the furnace, but explodes again)
Ename: This just isn’t going to work.
Hname: Hey look, <name> has returned, and seems to have something in his hand.
Ename: This looks very similar, but not such a bright light, lets try it.
(The three begin using the furnace)
Hname: Yes, yes, YES!
Ename: IT’S WORKING!
(Furnace opens up)
Ename: Perfect, look at this, my old armour is renewed.
Ename: Thank you for your assistance <name>. Hname and I shall share the secret of slots to you after we have conversed in what we have learned.
Ename: Meet us in the Rusty Anchor Pub tomorrow and we will fill you in.
(Cutscene ends)
Wait a game day and enter the Rusty Anchor Pub for a Cutscene
(Cutscene with Ename and Hume laughing)
Ename: Welcome <name>, sit down and have a drink with us.
Ename: We were just going over the finer points of slotting the armour, Hname tell him.
Hname: Its very simple really, I found my large stockpile of beastman seals and kindred seals could be used.
Hname: Simply using synergy I combined 12 beastman seals with Ename’s armour and suddenly slots the size of those materia appeared.
Hname: Anyway Ename, I’m going to head home to Bastok now, I hope you find more information on this materia you have discovered.
Ename: Thank you friend, and have a safe journey.
(Hname walks away towards Airship)
Ename: Thank you too <name>. If you have any questions feel free to ask me.
Ename: Or if you find out anything new information please inform me.
Ename: Good luck.
(Cutscene ends)
If you try to trade materia level 2, 3 or 4 you will get the following:
Ename: No, no no, this is no worse than I already have. I need something weaker to test on.
From this point on the NPC Ename can be used for materia information including:
Number of slots and elemental strength left on equipment
How many beastman / kindred seals you will need for slots
Maximum number of materia on each equipment
For a fee Jaunty Highwind can also remove all augments on a piece of equipment, though the augments will be lost forever.
Materia System!
Armour and materia will have different elemental strengths depending on type and level. Armour requires to be slotted first, then materia can be added.
Slots and Slotting Armour
Slotting armour has a synergy skill level of equal to the items level and will require the same number of seals as slots avalible to the armour. For equipment level 1-50 this will be beastman seals and 51-75 will require kindred seals.
Armour can hold up to a set number of slots and materia. Each level of materia takes up 1 slot.
3 slots (Max 1 materia) for earrings and rings
6 slots (Max 2 materia) for shield, neck, back and waist
9 slots (Max 3 materia) for head, hands, legs and feet
12 slots (Max 4 materia) for body
Materia and equipping
Materia can be added to armour at anytime but there are rules to adding them. You can trade Ename to find your armours elemental strength and the number of slots it has. Can also trade him materia to find how much space it will take up on your armour.
To perform the synergy trade with a furnace your slotted armour and the materia you wish to combine.
Materia cannot be placed onto armour if the same stat already exsists, possitive or negative.
Cannot stack same materia of any level (i.e cannot have level 2 and 4 haste, but can have level 2 evasion and level 2 haste).
Materia Element points:
Level 1 (Dim Light): 1 points
Level 2 (Glowing Light): 3 points
Level 3 (Bright Light): 6 points
Level 4 (Radiant Light): 10 points
Use the following formula: 1 point per item level, element split according to item type. Always round down, so 3.9 would be 3.

Level 2 Haste = 3 Wind (2 slots)
Level 4 Attack = 10 Fire (4 slots)

Sounds more tedious than fun tbh. Like our current armor system.

Level 75 body so:
75 points split as follows:
Fire (15%) 11, Earth (15%) 11, Thunder (15%) 11, Wind (5%) 3, Water (15%) 11, Ice (15%) 11, Light (10%) 7, Dark (10%) 7
12 Slots available (Max 4 materia)
Level 2 Haste = 3 Wind (2 slots)
Level 4 Attack = 10 Fire (4 slots)
Level 1 Store TP = 1 Fire (1 slot)
