FFXI was coded for the PS2. Not the PC, so naturally, it is going to perform better on a PS2.
HOWEVER.
Because of severe advances in technology since the PS2's release, you are just better off playing on a PC.
No way in hell you are going to get capped FPS in even Lower Jeuno on a PS2, and I'd rather not have to rely on the PS2's rather shitty Network Adapter when I am doing something important.
I used to play the game on dialup ffs, I haven't had the ps2 drop me, ever. Unlike the pc. I don't play the game for graphics, never have so fps doesn't make a *** (the game is ancient anyway, nobody plays this game for graphics). Main reasons I don't play on pc
1. thing always lags out when taken out of focus
2. lags even during gameplay (with hardware that's more than 3x it's specs)
3. the mere time and effort it takes to install/update the game is obnoxious when one needs to reinstall their os, which in my case I do often to clean up and even if i were to do an image after install, updates would still be a *** every time and (short of the 360) uninstalling/reinstalling on a console is rare at best.
4. game was designed to move around best with a controller.(yeah yeah pc controllers, yeah yeah)

nah broadband ruins the true ffxi experience
plus it's probably cheating
stop being a moron for 30 seconds, using a windower (short of the in game one) is cheating no matter what you say.

Like I said, I addresssed this stuff already, but you ignored it.
Fact is: This game is inferior on PS2, and nothing you say will change that.

cheating on a videogame made by a corporation that thinks i can dedicate my life to their game keeps me up a lot of hours
i really don't know how to deal with it morally when i realize i've disregarded the instructions of a faceless corporation

Have you truly played FFXI on the computer Jet? Based on how you claimed the PS2 version runs smoother than the PC version, I can safely assume you haven't.
I used to primarily play FFXI on the PS2, but stopped after testing out the PC version. After that, I never went back. It literally feels like you're wading through water when playing the PS2 version of FFXI.
This is without using Windower as well, mind you, and while using my PS3 controller. Granted it's not as comfortable playing at the PC as playing on the couch and the big TV, but if you're trying to do any sort of event in FFXI that requires a good amount of people, I've found that PC is way more efficient.

it's outdated as *** now, hell i'm not even using the pc i last played xi on anymore, but 2.26 ghz p4 2 gb ram and 256mb video is more than enough to run xi on, hell multiple times if i wanted to. Thing is it wasn't the hardware, just the game didn't run properly on the pc, doesn't run properly on my friends new i7 with 4gb ram and crossfire (not sure the rest of the specs).

I notice amounts of glitches in the pc version that just don't happen on the console versions, however the failbox is just fail (but that's another issue).

Um okay, hope this is in the right forum.
Basically I'm trying to uninstall FFXI + Playonline + all expansion packs from my old laptop. I've successfully uninstalled WOTG>TOAU>COP>ROZ>Playonline and am currently stuck on the "validating install" screen for the past 45 minutes, the status bar has hardly moved at all. I tried canceling, rebooting PC, repeat but same thing every time. Tried closing AV same thing. Did a defrag, same shit. WTF am I doing wrong?!
