I'm running vista and never had a problem in 3 years.
I notice some lag when I run 2 FFXI windows in highly populated areas, but that's it really..
So vista isnt something to blame, it's usually something else.

Yeah. This particular problem we've figure out that it's the 400 series of Nvidia cards. It sucks. Nvidia is apparently working on drivers that should fix it. The beta drivers worked for me, until my computer started freezing up.
I just reinstalled my old 250 GTS and it seems to be working perfectly.

I guess I'll have to wait on Nvidia for a solution to this one.

It's the beginning of the end for DX7/8 support. Be prepared games not popular dealing with those technologies to suffer more and more as time moves on. Popular games like Hife Life/Counter Strike will probably last longer.
