So I've been having a rough time finding a place to call home. I've been on a break for a while with FF, recently came back. Most of the people I knew that played had quit, so I decided to move to Carbuncle. A friend said they knew a lot of cool people there so sounded good to me. Turns out SURPRISE, a 99% jpn server means I get to sit on the bench because I wasn't born japanese 'cool kids club'. Every time I try to be friendly or get involved with a jpn group, they ignore me or rudely tell me in perfect english to go away. And that is only when I can guess what the whitegate shouts are saying, they purposefully never use autotranslate to keep anyone but japanese out. And even if the horrible prejudice wasn't the only problem the majority of english players show me why japanese here seem to hate english people. There are maybe 3 main english linkshells, and yes I've made a few friends with ppl that are cool. But overall it's not the friendly atmosphere I'm looking for. The english people here overall seem to be the leftovers that didn't move servers with the rest of NA because they lie and cheat their way through FF anyway, so it's not like they'd make friends no matter where they are LOL.

So would love to know what server isn't horribly overpopulated... horribly underpopulated.. nor has any strange prejudices. Any info appreciated. Thank you!<3

I've been on Carbuncle since PS2 launch and I never found it horrible here...a lot of the LS's here are very close knit so finding people for random help can be somewhat scarce but not at all impossible. As for the JP players its going to be present in any server. I've partied with JP players for years and never had a problem with them. You just have realize there is a culture barrier and JP players are use to polite customs. I suggest using Auto Translate features that are polite, for instance if I'm asking anyone JP or EN I always put in {Excuse me...}. Its polite. If you ever see me online (and not AFK cuz I tend to be a lot) though don't hesitate to say hi. If im not with my friends doing some random stuff I'm usually bored and down to do whatever! :P

I've been on Carby since the PS2 launch as well and I've never had those problems. I've actually hung out with more JP players these past few months doing my magian trials than I have in the past 6 years and they've all been okay to me. Some were chattier than others, but nobody was ever nasty.

Syress is right, I think it's just a cultural thing for the most part. Also, auto translate is decent but it's still not perfect for communicating with people that don't speak any english at all, especially when you're doing something more organized. Some JP might shy away from doing things with an english speaking person for that reason alone.

Anyway, good luck with your server hunt :)

I agree that carby sucks, atleast during EU prime (when I play). I'm taking my moogle and my gobbiebag and moving to ragnarok this weekend! Once there, I'll let you know if it's any better (If I remember).

i never got the carby hate, though i've never had another server to compare it to

i'd think the groups of people would be pretty much randomly distributed across servers

and that all servers would be more or less the same

what someone may feel is disgust for their server may likely be disgust for the game in its current state

i know someone who changed servers from carby recently, realized that the grass wasn't much greener on the other side

and quit the game for 14 instead

I've been on carby since I started a millenium ago. It's not recently that I started to dislike carby. I just havent bother to transfer before.

It's always been hard+++++ to get anything done EU time on carby. But I feel that now with new contents, new AF, new NM's and all that I dont wanna solo everything anymore, or shout for hours to get something done.

I wanna complete AF +2! And from what I understand there's a lot of NM killing along the way there. And Cerely have promised me that her ls will drop everythig at hand and work on getting me my stuff asap! (I wish lol).

Atleast now I will have a EU ls that actually do things when I'm online, without you having to speak fluent spanish to understand wth you're supposed to do (I hope).

In carby's defense we have a very good Central to Mountain time population, with plenty of good people. No idea about EU as that is way before I get home from work

Put a big ol' line through Sylph, too. I spend 90% of my time unable to find anything or anyone to something productive in game with anyway. Wait a tic... >_> actually don't. Come here and be my friend! ^^b

On a serious note, that kind of sucks for Carbuncle. I had heard it was a pretty good server (this was quite a few months... or even a year ago). I knew a few people that jumped there and they liked it. Oh well :(

here's the secret

all servers are showing signs of age

there IS no magic server where every shout is answered and every request for help is met with friendly response

like it or not this is a game in the twilight of its career and all servers are going to have the characteristics of an aging game

if you have an ls or friends waiting for you on the other side, a server jump makes sense

if you don't, you will most likely be dismayed to find more of the same

Quetz is cool! I'm currently in an EU LS with enough people online on evenings and weekends to go full Alliance Dynamis, Limbus, Sky etc.

Also have a Sky LS which I don't have to stay up stupidly late/get up stupidly early to go join in :3

Odin has a near perfect mix of EU, NA and JP. And is pretty light on the Drama, not like the High School servers such as Asura or Bahamut.

The only real trouble-maker LS died months ago, and with abyssea out, Odin people are far too busy playing the game, to prattle on about stupid ***.

Let me tell you a little secret. Servers really don't mean ***, if you have no friends on here, you probably just aren't a person people can get along with. GL thinking that will change on any other server.

My original account was on Quetzalcoatl, and I played on there from 2003 to 2009. I won't lie, I do miss some of my friends on there, but all the old school originals from Quetz are long gone and quit, or they just lurk the forums on QCDN, but don't play anymore.

I'm on Carbuncle now, (I made a new account after I quit in 09) and I see nothing wrong with it besides the whole JP thing. I'm not prejudice against JP, while this server may be primarily JP, and the server as a whole is not huge, I actually like the smaller size. I'm not sure why people WANT to be in overly populated servers. You just can't see the benefits of a smaller one.

And as far as the whole JP thing goes, you just have to make the right friends. I do alot of JP abysseas and JP atma farming runs, and I actually think JP groups are much more organized, fun, and generally better than NA groups. And in case you're interested, I speak not one word of JP.

Moral: Bigger is not always better. Unless it's your ***, then well if it's small you're pretty much ***!
